Over the last year, we’ve been tracking the unprecedented wave of farmers’ protests shaking the continent and broken major news on every crucial development for the sector – including on the CAP simplification agenda and plans for the next budget. What’s more, we’re also shedding new light on long-term trends in climate and ecology while reporting from key capitals on food standards.
In 2026, we will continue to follow the evolution of the budget debate and the upcoming Commission proposals on pesticides, unfair trading practices, biotechnology, and nitrogen pollution management, paying special attention to global trade. After all, a farm is not a closed space, but rather a crossroads of the economy, ecology, identity, and security.
Angelo Di Mambro, Agrifood Editor
Often, it’s the small things that matter. European leaders make sweeping statements of ambition on everything from halting global warming – while saving Europe’s industrial base – to reversing ecosystem destruction. But when it comes to drafting a law, its potency often boils down to a single figure, sometimes a single word. And there are many people who don’t want you to know what’s really going on. That’s where we come in.
This year, VOLTAGE has brought you news of how the world’s most powerful greenhouse gas caused a spat between Paris and Berlin, how the Commission intervened in the signing of a nuclear contract in Czechia, and the first look at a major interview that revealed what the Trump administration thinks of Europe’s energy transition.
Robert Hodgson, Energy, Environment and Transport Editor
Euractiv’s health team consistently breaks exclusive news on key pharma, biotech, and tobacco files, including leaked drafts and the carve up of dossier responsibilities. We were first to report on new tobacco excise taxes and revealed Commission plans to pull revenue from a tax on highly processed foods. Our interviews include the Health Commissioner and Bayer’s CEO.
We are strengthening our reputation as the go-to source on the Pharmaceutical Package, Critical Medicines Act, Biotech Act, Life Sciences Strategy, the health budget, and public health reporting. We have also begun training our team to dig deeper into investigative journalism, enhancing our capacity to deliver exclusive, in-depth coverage into your inboxes daily.
Brenda Strohmaier, Health Editor
The team's recent pipeline of exclusives includes getting our hands on European Commission plans for the Digital Services Act review, Council discussions on AI Act delays, and parliamentarians’ positions on AI and copyright. We’ve scooped countries’ priorities for the Digital Decade, international data strategy, and e-wallets. We also had the Presidency’s declaration on protecting children online before rivals broke news of the Commission’s startup strategy and revealed DG CNECT veteran Roberto Viola’s not-so-early retirement plans.
In 2026, the team will be tracking the various EU proposals at play, including the Cloud and AI Development Act, Digital Networks Act, Digital Fairness Act, and Democracy Shield. We’ll be keenly watching the Digital Omnibus package, too, to unpack impacts – whether on long-standing privacy rules or the (still box-fresh) AI Act. Upcoming reviews of the DMA and DSA will also keep us busy. Plus, we expect to be breaking more news on tech sovereignty, cybersecurity, media, and more!
Natasha Lomas, Tech Editor
Our newsletter launched as an unprecedented European political will to defend ourselves was finally matched by the unleashing of financial power. We’re focusing on the EU’s work to bankroll remilitarisation which has unleashed a flood of money, and a number of new acronyms – EDIP, SAFE, ASAP.
Defence Commissioner Andrius Kubilius even hailed our work as a “Big Bang for defence journalism” at our formal launch event in September.
The year ahead could be the Hamiltonian moment for Europe's defence ambitions.
Alongside keeping track of every bit of creative accounting to divert existing pots of money to military purposes, our team will be following negotiations over the next seven-year EU budget to see if the Commission's spending plans meet the bloc’s needs and its own ambition. And we will be listening closely in case the whispers of potential new EU borrowing turn into a louder call for joint action.
